Fuji Bikes joins Alejandro Fernandez for 2017 and 2018 Red Bull GRC Seasons

AF Racing is pleased to announce that Fuji Bikes will serve as a primary sponsor of Alejandro Fernandez’s #126 GRC Lites car for the rest of the 2017 Red Bull Global Rallycross season and into 2018. To kick off the partnership, Fernandez will carry the Fuji Bikes logo on his hood in events in Seattle this weekend and in the Los Angeles season finale on October 13-14.

2017 Mid-season review: Alejandro Fernandez

STATS (through 6 of 12 rounds): 9th in GRC Lites points (253), best finish 5th, 1 heat win

POSITIVES: Racing in GRC Lites for the fourth consecutive year, Fernandez was responsible for getting both Burt Jenner and Gustavo Yacaman up to speed in their first race experiences in a rallycross car. But the three-time Lites Fan Favorite Driver isn’t just out there making laps: in fact, he’s coming off of some of his best results of the year in the Ottawa doubleheader, where he made his first top five finish and won his first heat of the year.

Matt Halliday joins GRC Lites field for Indianapolis round

One look at Matt Halliday’s racing resume should be enough to incite deep jealousy in even some of the world’s most successful racing drivers. He’s competed in everything from go-karts to Porsches, A1 Grand Prix to the Champ Car World Series, and a number of V8 Supercar endurance rounds.

Yacaman wins pole, veterans win heat at GRC Lites Louisville

Continuing the theme of “anything can happen” that GRC Lites established in Memphis, rallycross newcomer Gustavo Yacaman earned the pole position in his first start this afternoon at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville. But when all was said and done, it was the top two drivers from Memphis—Conner Martell and Cyril Raymond—and sophomore driver Travis PeCoy earning the first round heat victories on Saturday afternoon.

Newcomer Yacaman returns AF Racing to GRC Lites podium in Louisville

Three and a half years.

That’s how long it had been since Gustavo Yacaman had driven a GRC Lites car when he landed in Louisville for last weekend’s event at the Kentucky Exposition Center.

He didn’t exactly take very long to get the hang of it again, though. At or near the top of the speed charts all weekend, Yacaman not only won pole for the weekend, but also hung on for a third place finish in the final—returning AF Racing to the podium for the first time since last August in Atlantic City. And it all came together in the span of less than a week.

Burt Jenner takes advantage of first opportunity in GRC Lites

For only having a few days’ worth of notice, Burt Jenner made the most of his GRC Lites debut with AF Racing.

A veteran racer of everything from off-road trucks to Lamborghinis, Jenner’s deal came together quickly leading up to the season opener at Memphis International Raceway. Over the course of just a few days, the California native went from planning to watch the race on TV to a member of the field in the #5 Live/United Fiber & Data car, racing alongside veteran teammate Alejandro Fernandez.

Burt Jenner, Alejandro Fernandez to drive for AF Racing at Red Bull GRC Memphis

AF Racing will field two GRC Lites cars for this weekend’s Red Bull Global Rallycross season opener at Memphis International Raceway. Alejandro Fernandez will return for his fourth season as a Red Bull GRC driver in the #126 car, while Burt Jenner will make his debut in the #5 United Fiber & Data/LIVE car.

Jenner joins the team after a successful career in off-road and sports car racing. While a newcomer to rallycross, he is no stranger to winning, taking top honors in Octane Academy in 2013 and running extensively in Lamborghini Super Trofeo and Stadium Super Trucks.

Loenbro Motorsports and AF Racing Team join forces for 2017 Red Bull GRC Season

Loenbro Motorsports and AF Racing are pleased to announce a partnership for the 2017 Red Bull Global Rallycross season. Effective immediately, the alliance will see the front-running teams in the Supercar and GRC Lites classes join forces to strengthen their collective efforts in pursuit of both of this year’s championships.

Season review: Travis Pecoy

RESULTS: 8th, Lites; 249 points
STATS: 11 starts, 1 podium, 1 heat win

IN BRIEF: Making the jump from short-course off-road racing to GRC Lites was a big switch for PeCoy, who would have to deal with pavement more than he ever had elsewhere in his career. But the AF Racing Team driver progressed well throughout the 2016 season, shining in the second half of the year in particular, and set himself up for a bona fide championship charge in 2017.

Season review: Alejo Fernandez

RESULTS: 7th, Lites; 256 points
STATS: 11 starts, best finish 4th

IN BRIEF: Fernandez didn’t have the breakout season he may have hoped for in his third year as a GRC Lites driver, but that didn’t mean there weren’t any bright spots. Red Bull GRC’s first Colombian competitor, now the leader of a three-car AF Racing Team effort, provided valuable advice to Christian Brooks and Travis PeCoy and won his third straight Fan Favorite Driver award.

He raced in the US until he joined G-Drive Racing in 2015, where he drove a Ligier in the WEC Championship and finished that season 3rd in the LMP2 class. In 2016 Yacamán switched to a sprint format, driving for BMW Team Teo Martín in the International GT Open series. He finished runner-up for the 2016 Championship.

For 2009, he returned to the U.S. to race in the Firestone Indy Lights Series with Sam Schmidt Motorsports. He finished 12th in points with a best finish of 4th at the Milwaukee Mile. He returned to the series in 2010 with the rookie team Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing. Yacamán improved to 10th in points and captured his first podium finish with a 3rd place at Toronto. He returned to the series in 2011 for a third season, this time with Team Moore Racing. He captured his first win late in the season at Baltimore and finished fourth in points. Yacamán achieved his first Indy Lights pole position at the 2012 Firestone Freedom 100. He finished the season third in points with two wins (at Detroit and Toronto) and three runner-up finishes.

Joining AF Racing alongside Alejandro Fernandez, Jenner makes his first GRC Lites start in Memphis nearly four years removed from his first test session in the car. The former Octane Academy winner has made a name for himself in off-road racing and sports cars, and combines those backgrounds in his first attempt at rallycross. The California native is just one in a long line of drivers to make his debut for the team, many of whom have gone on to contend for wins.
